Conducting and compiling this site is the project of local writer, H.J. Tanner and is entirely self-funded and managed meaning she is the founder, editor, writer, photographer, technical guru, tea girl and quite possibly the one who doesn’t answer the phones.

The Interviews
This is Ulverston is a collection of portraits and interviews featuring the residents of Ulverston UK. The format is long form journalism alongside silvertone portraiture.
We feature Ulverston locals and ask them about their lives and businesses. Anyone can put themselves or others forward and we also approach people we think would make an interesting read. Most people are more interesting than they may realise – so this is far from exclusive! We started with family, friends and recommendations.
All interviews have to take place in level access locations and are paced at an hour maximum each to allow for limitations of health issues of the Editor.
A quick note : If we reach out to you and you respond with a no we will respect that and not ask again. But we are still happy to promote you so please keep in touch because as we are out and about we talk! We recommend and promote things better than your average hairdresser or taxi driver and we meet a lot of people. We focus on inclusivity and our house rules are very simple – anything positive that is part of a solution is welcome here. Also of note – we run a respond and or redirect culture which means that we will always acknowledge your contact if it is relevant and regards our content. If we can’t take it further we will redirect you to someone or something more suited. But we will always respond! We don’t take part in any social media projects or collaborations except to feature our publication. This is not personal it just keeps our goals and focus simple.
Working in long form we can achieve a personal and in depth profile of a person and their life or work in a way that other forms of journalism sometimes cannot. This is the reason why we do not film the interviews or broadcast them. Your interview will be recorded as an audio file, transcribed and published alongside a black and white portrait of yourself which we will take at the interview. That’s it!
This is Ulverston remains neutral on politics, religion and any other divisive topic. Our focus is on people, their stories, their lives and their contributions or links to Ulverston. The only requirement for feature is that they either live or work in the town and are over 18 years of age.
